My first interaction with UNFPA was during the Live Your Dream Moment featuring the Beauty Queens from Miss Uganda Foundation. The event was so inspiring especially because I learnt that, like us, the beauty queens face struggles and do not get things on a silver platter. I also attended the Generation for Generation dialogue.
The events have encouraged me to believe that with hard work dreams can become valid. The Generation for Generation Dialogue was very interactive. I also like the fact that it did not only focus on only women but even men were on the panel. I found discussions about teenage pregnancy very informative and relatable. This is because I have seen my friends suffer in this regard as well as girls in Gomba district where I volunteer. The panelist that inspired me the most is Leah Kagasa from Live your Dream Moment, her story inspired me a lot. Listening to her backstory about her humble background, how she almost gave up but kept on pushing gave me a lot of morale. I believe I will make it in life with persistence and hard work.
I suggest the events by UNFPA are organized more often. Such events should also be held in rural areas because people out there tend to give up but if they see their peers from the same village make it, they are inspired.
