The Situation:  Women constitute half the number of adults living with HIV/AIDS and sadly, the majority of these belong to the youth bracket of 15 - 24 years of age in Sub-Saharan Africa.

What We Do: Prevention is the stronghold of UNFPA's fight against HIV/AIDS. Emphasis on abstinence outside marriage and fidelity within marriage as promoted through "zero-grazing" in HIV/AIDs campaigns in Uganda helps to promote safer sexual behaviour among young people.

UNFPA also makes sure that condoms are readily available in health facilities and that information of their correct use is widely distributed. Empowering women to protect themselves and their children is a drive to ensure that they fight for the right to live safely and protected. BCC campaigns also promote the active participation of men in the whole family network and process before and after maternal deliveries.
