Report shows strong and steady commitment by Uganda for Family Planning

During the Nairobi ICPD25 summit, the Government of Uganda updated its national commitment for family planning with its revised targets to reduce unmet need for family planning to 10 percent and increase the modern contraceptive prevalence rate among all women to 50 percent by 2022. The Government further committed to allocate USD 5 million annually for procurement and distribution of RH/FP supplies and commodities to the last mile.

Sexual reproductive health and in particular Family planning is one of the key pillars in accelerating the opening of the window of opportunity to harness the demographic dividend.  Sexual and reproductive health Rights are defined as fundamental entitlements to have control over and make informed decisions on all matters related to sexual reproductive health free from coercion, violence, and discrimination.  Family planning is a key dimension of reproductive rights that enables couples and individuals to decide freely and responsibly the number and spacing of their children and to have the information and means to do so.

Family Planning Costed Implementation Plans

UNFPA has supported development of the National and District family planning costed implementation plans to facilitate prioritisation of FP integration in national and district development plans and budget framework papers for mobilisation of domestic resources. The FP CIPs play as critical resource mobilization tool by articulating the resource requirement and as advocacy tool as well by showing the benefits of investing in family planning using a scenario based approach.

Key Findings of the Resource flows for Family Planning – 2014 to 2018 in Uganda
