Kampala, Uganda, April 30 - A high level mission of Executive Board members of six United Nations agencies are in Uganda to assess the organisation’s work in supporting the country’s development efforts.
The team of 35 members of the Executive Boards of UNDP, UNFPA, UNOPS, UNICEF, WFP and UN-Women will be in Uganda for five days from 30th April 2018 and will be interacting with key Government of Uganda officials, the diplomatic community, multilateral agencies and civil society, as well as beneficiaries in Kampala, Moroto, Amudat, Arua and Yumbe districts.
“We are delighted to host members of the Executive Boards for the different agencies. The visit is a great opportunity for us to showcase how we are working with the Government of Uganda and other partners to achieve both the national and global development agendas,” said Ms. Rosa Malango, the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative.
The UN agencies in Uganda are using this opportunity to showcase how they are ‘Delivering as One’ in support to Uganda’s work in achieving the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals, including humanitarian work to support refugees and displaced populations.
Speaking on behalf of the Executive Board Members, H.E. Amb. Jagdish Koonjul, Permanent Representative Mauritius and President of the Executive Board of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS noted the good collaboration between the UN and the Government of Uganda. “This is one of the pillars of the UN Reform agenda as envisioned by the UN Secretary General,” said H.E. Amb. Koonjul.
The report of the Executive Boards’ visit to Uganda will feed into the UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ new reforms for better coordination, transparency and accountability, including the functioning of the Resident Coordinator system for joint programming and partnerships.
