The Judiciary, together with the Governance and Security Programme (formerly JLOS) Secretariat with support from the UNFPA, implemented a project to fast track the management and disposal of SGBV-related cases in a number of courts throughout the country between 2018-2023. Good practices were identified and documented by a consultant, presented before the actors and validated to be used in the management and disposal of Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV) cases. The Special SGBV sessions were undertaken as part of Uganda’s obligation under the Constitution; The Protocol to the African Charter on the Rights of Women (Maputo Protocol); The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) SGBV Protocol, 2006 and the Kampala Declaration on SGBV, 2011; and the National Policy on Gender Based Violence.
