One of UNFPA's community based-strategies is mobilising champions who sensitize and inform the population. One well-known champion is the queen of the Buganda Kingdom, Nnabagereka Sylvia Nagginda who fortunately is passionate about gender equality and family planning.
On April the 24th, the Office of the Nabagereka held an Advocacy Campaign for Reproductive Health, Safe motherhood, Child Spacing and Gender Rights in Masaka District, supported by the Population Secretariat. The one day meeting brought together over 700 people who were informed on safe motherhood, child health and women's rights. Her Royal Highness called upon the audience to use family planning and to get tested on HIV/AIDS. "I would like to urge all men and women to ensure that they have only those children they can ably look after in terms of providing education opportunities, health care, shelter and adequate food," the Nnabagereka stated. She also pledged to work tirelessly to improve the lives of the men and women in the Buganda kingdom.
