While adopting the Sustainable Development Agenda at the United Nations in September 2015, world leaders resolved to promote gender equality and empower women and girls, acknowledging that investing in adolescent girls yields huge returns. That means enabling them to avoid child marriage and teenage pregnancy, ensuring their sexual health and reproductive rights, protecting them against HIV transmission and female genital mutilation, and supporting them to acquire the education and skills they need to fulfil their potential. During the launch of ‘Better Life for Girls Initiative’ in Kampala June 28, adolescent girls shared their hopes and dreams for the future through a photo exhibition. Inspired by the 2030 Agenda and the unmet needs of adolescent girls in Uganda, the initiative to prevent teenage pregnancy and child marriage in Uganda is supported by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and will be coordinated by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
